Chair Weber addressed the electors about the average age of the voters attending the Caucus today.  The population of the room is aging and there is concern as to where the Caucus is headed.  Weber felt there should be more representation from other age groups and encouraged everyone to share about the Caucus with their neighbors.  Phil Van Kampen suggested moving the Caucus to a Tuesday evening to encourage more people to attend, perhaps Saturday is not good for busy families.  Tim Fox shared that the Caucus situation is an aged process, he asked if the board considered changing to a more modern way with nomination papers?  It could be changed at a meeting of the electors.  Sandy Shackelford suggested information be included with the tax bills.  Clerk Arnold reported that the Caucus

information is currently on the tax newsletter.  Ann Kleckner really thought the Caucus was a very unfriendly process when attending for the first time.  Michael Briggs felt the process was more democratic and had successfully been that way for hundreds of years.  Brad Smith felt the low Caucus turnout is because people are satisfied with the direction the town leaders are going.  Andy Blomstrom felt after being nominated the candidates should stand and identify themselves.  John Beasley suggested a postcard mailing providing Caucus information rather than candidate information, sent a few weeks before the Caucus. Residents expressed that the general public does not even know what a Caucus is.  Many of the residents in attendance like the idea of a postcard mailer.

Motion made by Bob Johnson and seconded by Arlan Kay to adjourn the January 17, 2015 Town of Oregon Caucus.  Motion carried.
