TOWN OF OREGON PARK COMMITTEE
Monday, July 10, 2017 @ 6:30 pm
Present: Steve Root, Robert Johnson, Al Miller and Jeff Nelson
Absent: Linda Jackson
Also Present: Wayne Ace, Town Board Chairman
The minutes from the previous meeting were approved as written.
Steve meet with an Eagle Scout candidate that is interested in replacing the fiber mats at the town parks.
Linda is not at the meeting tonight, but distributed a memo on the butterfly garden at the town park. Al discussed the memo. Nate Mahr from the Oregon School District will raise the plants for the butterfly garden. Al feels it is important to identify the area for the garden so they can spray the area to allow for planting in fall. They will meet with Nate on July 17th.
Jerod Novinska has been hired to mow the parks. Steve is asking for approval from the town board to mow Anderson Park with reimbursement for Dane County.
Jeff moved, seconded by Al to approve a large Eagle Scout sign that is 10 inches wide for $119 versus $96. Motion carried 4-0.
Steve ordered 8 Eagle Scout name plate signs and will be available in two weeks.
Ryan obtained two bids for a park mower from Sloan Implement $12,450.00 and Mid-State $12,945.58. The difference is set-up fee, freight and board deck. The quote includes 4-wheel drive, 4 post canopy, beacon light, slow moving vehicle kit, air ride suspension seat. The options total $5,696.61. Steve is proposing to accept the Sloan bid, but wants the town board to make the final decision. The warranty is 2 years or 2,000 hours depending on which comes first. Steve recommends the board pay for the options and the park would pay for the mower. Jeff moved, seconded by Bob to purchase a park mower from Sloan. Motion carried 4-0.
Steve is working on an easement near the town park for the bike path. Dane County is producing a new pamphlet for Anderson Park and including the bike trail, however the monies will not be available till 2019.
An Eagle Scout project was completed at Anderson Park and the scout’s name will be included on the Eagle Scout board at the Town Hall.
At the Friends of Anderson Park meeting there were neighbors in the village that complained about the fire. Darren Marsh from Dane County Parks resolved those issues. Feral bees will be trapped and relocated to other areas. The use of round-up is acceptable by Dane County. The arborist from Dane County is still working on a report, but it looks as if the silver maples along Union Road will need to be removed because they are hollow. Dane County will work with the town on removal, possibly two years. There will be a candle night walk on November 4th. The Friends of Anderson Park annual meeting will be September 20th.
There was discussion on the next park meeting date. The next park meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 14, 2017 at 6:30 p.m.
Bob moved, seconded by Al to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried 4-0.
