TOWN OF OREGON PARK COMMITTEE
Monday, August 14, 2017 @ 6:30 pm
Present: Steve Root, Robert Johnson, Al Miller, Jeff Nelson and Linda Jackson
Also Present: Resident Dave Frankson
The minutes from the previous meeting are amended to correct the spelling of Maher to Mahr; then approved as amended.
The new Eagle Scout sign and name plates were installed and up to date.
The new park mower has arrived and the park fund will pay half of the cost of the mower, $6,753.39. The amount will be split in half and paid equally from the Town Park and Bi-Centennial accounts.
The town board has approved the mowing of Anderson County Park at a rate of $79 per hour, which includes both employee and mower costs. The county also asked for the town to mow the farm. The county will let the town know how many times to mow. The estimate for mowing is 2 ½ hours for the park and 2 hours for the farm.
Linda discussed the site of the butterfly garden at the Town Park. The area has been sprayed in preparation of planting this spring. Nate Mahr will be able to grow many of the plants with students from the Oregon Middle School, except prairie drop seed. The butterfly garden is specific for monarch butterflies. Linda read a list of plants for the garden and would like to include a few stepping stones plus a fence. Nate suggested not tilling the area to control the weeds. Bob will be able to get water to the garden if it is a dry season.
The Dane County arborist is on maternity leave and therefore Steve is still waiting for a report on the silver maples at Anderson Farm County Park.
The Village of Oregon has agreed to write a letter supporting the bike path through Anderson Farm County Park.
Steve talked with the Eagle Scout candidate that is interested in replacing the fiber mats at the town parks. He is still working on putting together a proposal.
Dave Frankson, 875 Hillcrest Lane, commented that the old wooden Eagle Scout benches at the Town Park are not looking nice and asking for them to be removed or replaced with the recycled plastic benches. Steve would like to talk with the scout master prior to removing the benches.
The brush cutting has been done. Jeff Olson from Arbor System is going to put together a proposal for the current open area and the area not opened yet at the Town Park.
There was discussion about allowing residents to have firewood by permit.
Steve will be gone the entire month of September and first week of October. Bob Johnson will also not be available in September. The park committee will not meet in September 2017. The next park committee meeting will be on October 9, 2017.
Al moved, seconded by Linda to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried 4-0.
