TOWN OF OREGON PARK COMMITTEE
Monday November 17, 2014 @ 6:30pm
Present: Steve Root, Bob Johnson, Allen Miller, Josh Nordstrum & Jeff Nelson
Absent: Bob Johnson
The meeting was called to order.
Al moved to approve the park minutes from October 6, 2014 and Josh seconded. Motion carried.
Steve discussed the vandalism at the Town Park. Steve contacted the Dane County Sheriff’s Department to file a police report. The deputy and Steve were able to locate pieces of the vehicle. Steve happened to see the vehicle at the Town Park the next day and reported the plate number to Dane County. The county located the owner and their son admitted to causing the damage. Steve talked with the boy and assigned work to repair the damage caused at the park. The boy was able to locate the post that was pulled out, but he will have to pay the cost of labor to re-install the post. He will also have to purchase a new oak tree if the damaged tree doesn’t survive. Steve asked for him to appear at the meeting tonight.
Josh worked with volunteer Dave Frankson installing wood chips on the trails at the Town Park. They ran into a problem when the wheels of the bobcat got caught on the timbers along the trail causing them to pop-up. The timbers will need to be removed and re-installed 5 feet apart. Josh suggested a sign at the walk-in entrance to the town park. There is a concern over traffic and activity happening after hours at the park. Steve will ask for increased patrol of the park. Steve re-surfaced the picnic tables, but they won’t be put back in the park until spring.
The Eagle Scout project at Bicentennial is progressing. The picnic table has been ordered. The project may not be completed this year due to the early winter.
The survey of Kennedy Park is estimated to cost between $1,500 and $2,000 because the north side of the property line is on a radius curve. It is a 946 foot radius curve that complicates the survey. Al moved to approve from $1,000 up to $2,000 to survey Kennedy Park and Jeff seconded. Motion carried.
The town board has decided to borrow $65,000 from the park funds at an interest rate of 2 ½ to 3%. It is estimated that the loan will be paid back in one year. The park committee reviewed the park financials.
Steve attended the Friends of Anderson Park meeting and potluck held in October. The Dane County Park Commissioner was there and expressed appreciation for the town’s support.
The Eagle Scout sign in front of the town hall has been repainted and new plaques have been installed. The old plaques were not UV protected and needed to be replaced.
There will not be a December 2014 park committee meeting. The next park committee meeting with be held on Monday, January 19, 2015 at 6:30 p.m.
Al moved to adjourn and Josh seconded the motion. Motion carried.
