TOWN OF OREGON PARK COMMITTEE
Monday April 21, 2014 @ 6:30pm
Present: Steve Root, Bob Johnson, Josh Nordstrum.
Absent: Allen Miller & Jeff Nelson
The meeting was called to order.
The minutes from the previous meeting were read silently. The park minutes were approved as read.
A fire number of 914 has been posted at Anderson Park. Anderson Park is getting ready for Earth Day and Arbor Day events so a portable toilet has been delivered. There will be several groups of kids participating in activities at the park. The kids will play games like Wildlife Bingo and win prizes at the end. There are two work days coming up in May and June. The dates will be published in the Oregon Observer. Dane County has accepted responsibility for the trees in the road right of way. Steve has requested the county have an arborist look at the trees and remove or trim as necessary.
Steve has requested that Nicholas Tree Service provide an estimate for trimming dangerous deadwood along the trails at the Town Park and Bi-Centennial Park. Nicholas will not touch live elm or oak trees until winter. The oak and elm trees can be pruned between November 15 and April 1, outside those dates they can be susceptible to disease. The estimate for Bi-Centennial Park is $2,300 and the Town Park is $4,200. The trees are going to be brought down, pushed off the trails and left for nature to take care of them. Nicholas has done work in the town parks before and he does excellent work. Josh moved to recommend approval of the bid from Nicholas Tree Service for tree trimming at the Bi-Centennial and Town Parks and Bob seconded the motion. Motion carries. Steve will present recommendation to the town board. Steve will hold off on the costs of the fall tree trimming until later in the year. Nicholas will not increase the price of the fall tree trimming estimate.
Steve walked Kennedy Park in preparation of the Eagle Scout project of the exercise stations. The location of the stations will need to be remarked because the marking from last year are no longer visible. There will be a workday in a couple weeks at Tim LeBrun’s house. The scout will contact the rope pullers for their help. The town is willing to help with the welding. The box elders trees have started encroaching on the playground equipment at Kennedy Park. The town road crew can take care of the tree trimming, but a survey needs to be done to know where the property lines are located. Steve doesn’t have an estimate yet, but a previous estimate was $1,800. Steve will have a firm estimate from surveyor Thom Grenlie by the town board meeting. Steve is requesting the entire southern line be surveyed. Josh moved to recommend approval of a cost up to $2,000 for the survey of Kennedy Park and Bob seconded the motion. Motion carries. Steve will present recommendation to the town board.
Josh reported that truck issue in his neighborhood discussed at the last meeting has been resolved.
The next meeting will be held on Monday, May 12, 2014. The park board decided to walk the town parks after a short park board meeting on Monday, May 12, 2014. They would like to start the meeting earlier at 6:00 p.m. Steve will notify Al and Jeff.
Bob moved to adjourn and Josh seconded the motion. Motion carried.
