 TOWN OF OREGON PARK COMMITTEE

Monday May 6, 2013 @6:30pm

Present:  Janine Jensen, Allen Miller, Steve Root, Bob Johnson

Also present:  Mitch Condon, Eagle Scout candidate, Mrs. Terry Condon, 2 scouts and their parents for observation

The meeting was called to order.

The minutes from the previous meeting were read and were approved with the addition that the meeting for April 29th had been switched to May 6th.

Mitch Condon presented his final Eagle Scout project summary.  Mitch’s project was to clean up and clear existing trails and to add 2 new benches.  He presented photos of the work he was able to complete.  He changed his project so that his new benches would match the existing benches.  He coordinated 10-15 scouts and 7 adults for work on the project.  His original budget was $1100, but the total cost of the project was only $347.39.  Mitch provided the township with his receipts for reimbursement.  Steve will acquire the plaque for the Eagle Scout Project Board, and then signed off on the paperwork.  Mitch will appear before the Town Board at its next meeting.  The committee thanked Mitch for his service to the Town Parks system.

Steve has suspended work on the Dane County grant for the possible bike path with the Village of Oregon.  The Village’s portion is in jeopardy because one landowner has changed their mind, which would then require the path to be a “boardwalk” over the wetlands, and the US Fish & Wildlife Service has denied the request.

There is nothing new for discussion about a potential creamery project.

Mr. Nathan Hegg has approached Steve and the committee about donating 7 maple trees.  He has offered to have them delivered.  It was decided that these trees would be planted at the Town Park, to replace several trees that have died.  Steve will talk with the town crew about a possible auger and then the watering situation will need to be addressed, since there is no water at the park.  A suggestion was made that the Boy Scout troops and Cub Scouts be notified of the project for a service badge.

Two Eagle Scout candidates have approached Steve for possible projects in the Town of Oregon, and there is the possibility of 2 additional scouts with an interest.

The next meeting will be Monday, June 3, 2013 at 6:00pm.  The committee will meet at the Town Hall and then walk the parks for a review of possible projects.

Allen moved to adjourn and Bob seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

Respectfully submitted,

Janine Jensen
