TOWN OF OREGON PARK COMMITTEE
Monday April 1, 2013 @6:30pm
Present: Janine Jensen, Allen Miller, Steve Root, Bob Johnson
Also present: Alex LeBrun, Eagle Scout candidate, Tim LeBrun, Tom Richards, Eagle candidate
The meeting was called to order.
The minutes from the previous meeting were read and were approved as read.
Alex LeBrun presented his final Eagle Scout project summary. He had a Power Point presentation, which included photos of the work as it was being done and also a list of materials used. His project was started in the fall of 2012 and involved improving trails within the Bicentennial Park, making them more accessible and also adding much needed trash receptacles. Alex presented a map of the work that was done. The brush from the pathway was cut by John Beasley and can be maintained in the future with trimming and spraying. Alex and his volunteers replaced some timbers along the trail and added woodchips to a depth of approximately 4 to 5 inches deep. The new trash receptacles were added and anchored into concrete. The original budget approved for the project was $1400 but the costs came in at only $303.13. Alex provided the township with his receipts for reimbursement. The committee thanked Alex for his terrific service to the Town Parks system.
Tom Richards made his Eagle Scout project presentation to the committee. His project was to create a new trail in the Town Park by connecting two sections of the existing trails. The work was completed in the fall of 2012. This new trail runs by the newly constructed structure within the park. (Tom indicated that it was in place when his project began.) The materials needed for the project came from Menards, with his grandparents making this their donation to his project. The project was to create 225 feet of trail, and timbers were laid to outline the trail. The project was completed in one day, with 9 youth and 3 adults working. Steve had already signed off on this project because Tom needed it to be complete before his 18th birthday in March. Tom was now making his presentation afterwards because of his inability to present earlier due to the high school hockey season. The committee also thanked Tom for his service.
Steve has nearly completed the grant request to apply for Dane County funds for land acquisition for a possible new bike trail. However, Steve has heard that the Village of Oregon has hit a possible snag in their pursuit of land for this project.
The committee was informed that discussions are still ongoing between Phil Peterson and Sam Stuessy about a potential creamery project.
Tim LeBrun, Scout Master indicated to Steve that there will be possibly one or two more requests for Eagle Scout projects from Troop 50, and Steve is in discussions with Troop 168 encouraging candidates to consider projects in the Town of Oregon.
Steve indicated that he will be acquiring the plagues for the Scout board for these most recent projects.
The next meeting will be Monday, April 29, 2013 at 6:30pm. Spring work dates will be set at that time.
Bob moved to adjourn and Allen seconded the motion. Motion carried.
