TOWN OF OREGON PARK COMMITTEE
Monday September 24, 2012 @6:30pm
Present: Janine Jensen, Mark Brylski, Steve Root, Bob Johnson
Also present: Collin Schmidt, Mitch Condon, Terri Condon and Mike Debaker
The meeting was called to order.
The minutes from the previous meeting were read and were approved as read.
Eagle Scout candidate, Mitch Condon presented his project proposal. Mitch would like to create two benches in the Bicentennial Park and clear the middle trail, and add wood chips and timbers to approximately 100 feet of trail. Mitch hasn’t arrived at a cost estimate. His timeline for his project is to have it finished by the end of this current school year. Bob moved to approve his project up to a cost of $1100 without appearing to get formal approval. If the cost exceeds $1100, Mitch will need to make an additional appearance. Mark moved to second the motion. Motion carried.
Mike Debaker presented his Eagle Scout project. He and his work group installed 11 erosion bars within the Ravenoaks Park. He was able to re-use leftover timbers from Collin Schmidt’s project. The only cost involved in this project is $11.29 for stakes that were purchased. Steve will walk the site with Mike on Sunday, September 30th.
Collin Schmidt, Eagle Scout candidate presented his report for his project within Ravenoaks Park. He has cleared 325 feet of trails with the help of John Beasley and his brush clearing device. Collin and his work group installed treated 4x4’s and nailed them into the ground. Wood chips were placed on the trails, after they are sprayed with “Pasture Pro”. Collin reported that the total cost of the project came to less than $600. Collin and Mike will make their final presentations to the Town Board on November 7th. Collin has selected October 6th at 1pm for his project celebration.
Alex LeBrun, who lives near the Bicentennial Park, has completed his project within this park and he will hopefully appear at the next meeting to present his report.
The work day which was scheduled for September 29th at 8AM has been cancelled. The town crew has recommended replacing all boards on the benches because they have weathered. Steve will meet with the crew and replace these boards and do some minor repairs in the Della Street Park.
The Town Park parking lot and road have been re-surfaced and the stripes have been painted. Steve authorized payment and the Town Board has agreed to reimburse one-half of the road’s charges
Steve received a letter from Phil Peterson inquiring about assistance from the committee about possible restoration of a creamery on the Steussy farm.
Steve and Phil Van Kampen will be meeting about the proposed bike path from Oregon to Madison.
The next meeting will be Monday, October 15, 2012 at 6:30pm.
Mark moved to adjourn and Bob seconded the motion. Motion carried.
