 Monday July 30, 2012 @6:30pm

Present:  Janine Jensen, Mark Brylski, Steve Root, Bob Johnson

The meeting was called to order.

The minutes from the previous meeting were read and were approved as read.

Lucas Walowit requested that Steve re-sign his paperwork on his completed Eagle Scout project in the Hillcrest Park.  Lucas had misplaced one of his pages on which were recorded an additional 30 hours of volunteer labor and this needed to be added to his previous report.  Steve signed them and Lucas has taken it to the Scout office.

There were no Eagle Scout candidates present to make their presentations.  However Steve reported that Collin Schmidt has established a work date for his project within Ravenoaks Park.  He intends to clear trails within the Park.  John Beasley has agreed to help with his brush clearing device.  After the brush is cleared, Collin intends to add wood chips and trail markers.  When this project is completed, Mike Debaker’s proposed project for new erosion bars in the trail system will begin.

Steve reported that the trees in Ravenoaks Park look good.  They have been watered by a neighbor.  However, two of the trees are showing signs of deer rubbing.  Some protection will be needed for those trees.  Steve also reported that the bench behind the backstop is missing a 2 x 4.

There was some concern expressed by a neighbor about possible vandalism, but the neighbor didn’t get a look at the individuals.

Della Street Park looks great.  The new grass is growing and the equipment is being used.

In Kennedy Park, the trees that were thought to be dead have been watered and appear to be making a comeback.

For the Bicentennial Park, Alex LeBrun, who lives nearby, has contacted Steve and will be meeting with him on July 31st to look into possible new trails within the park for his Eagle Scout project.

In the Town Park, the hole behind the bench has not yet been filled in, but Steve will talk with the Town crew.  The bike rack has been recovered and is currently at the Town Hall.  It will need to be re-installed and cemented in.  The bench is also in need of repair.  It was decided that the committee will establish a work date in late September for some of these repairs.

Steve was contacted by a vendor of portable toilets about the possibility of providing one gratis for the township to try.  The committee discussed the pros and cons and decided that the township would not be interested in this at this time.

After some discussion at the previous meeting about getting an estimate from Bartelt Pavers for re-painting the parking lot in the Town Park and the potential need to have the parking lot re-sealed next spring, Steve re-contacted them to get 2 estimates: one for re-sealing the parking lot, with painting and one for also including the re-sealing of the Town Park Road.  The work on the lot only would be $1436.11 and the separate cost of the road would come to another $2942.60 for a total of $4378.71.  If both were to be done at the same time, there would be a discount of $300.  Mark moved to approve the expenditure of both, with the Park committee paying for its portion and the township to pay for the road costs.  There was some discussion as to what the committee would do if the township were not interested in having their share of the work done at this time.  Mark amended his motion to indicate that if the Town Board was interested in having the work done, but had limited funds available, that the Park committee would agree to pay for the entire amount until the township would be able to reimburse the Park funds for their share.  Bob seconded the motion.  Motion carried. Steve will present this to the Town Board at its next meeting.

The Town crew has been watering the new trees in the Town Park, so they look fine.  The underbrush that was growing over the trails has died off due to the drought, but if the rains return, so might the underbrush.

Mark reported that there will be a neighborhood gathering within Della Street Park on Tuesday, August 7th.  He also mentioned that the Park committee should be aware of the possibility of some backlash against the Scouts and their projects due to some decisions/remarks that have been made recently which could appear to be discriminatory.

The next meeting will be Monday, August 20, 2012 at 6:30pm.

Mark moved to adjourn and Bob seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

Respectfully submitted,

Janine Jensen
