Present:  Janine Jensen, Mark Brylski, Steve Root, Bob Johnson, Raandi Schmidt

Also present: Chris Johnson

The meeting was called to order.

The minutes from the previous meeting were read and were approved as read.

Steve reported that the Town Board approved expenditures up to $3500 for the Eagle Scout project in the Hillcrest Park and also approved the request to have the Town crew provide the excavation services.  Lucas Walowit has been informed of the approval.

Steve has not yet been able to set a meeting with the Eagle Scout candidate who wants to install drainage bars on the trails in Ravenoaks Park.  But the Scout has plenty of time to complete his project before his 18th birthday.

The committee reviewed the park fund balances as of December 31, 2011.  There is approximately $130,000 in various Money Market accounts and CD’s for the Bicentennial Park.  The general park fund has about $144,000 held in several different accounts.

Steve has begun working on a wood gathering permit.  He has received several inquiries.  The discussion turned to the question of whether dead trees within the park that wildlife may be using for refuge should be removed, especially if they are located near the trails.  The committee will need to revisit this issue in the near future.

Mr. Dave Wood from the DNR was the volunteer who put up the PVC bird houses in the park.  He now would like to replace them with cedar bird houses. Steve gave him the go-ahead.  Mr. Wood also indicated that he appreciated the cuttings that had been done in the Town Park.

He proposes spraying the cut woody vegetation with a poison to prevent re-growth.  He would volunteer his time and identify and spray the vegetation.  The chemicals that he proposes to use cost about $75/gallon and are mixed with bark oil.  He would mix it and split the cost with the township.  The Town’s portion would be approximately $111 for 5 gallons, which would take care of the entire Town Park.  This process can be done in the winter. Mark made a motion to approve the project and Bob seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

Steve indicated that he has not heard from Jen Williams.

The next meeting will be Monday, February 27, 2012 at 6:30 pm.

Raandi moved to adjourn and Mark seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

Respectfully submitted,

Janine Jensen
