TOWN OF OREGON PARK COMMITTEE
Monday April 9, 2012 @6:30pm
Present: Janine Jensen, Mark Brylski, Steve Root, Bob Johnson
Also present: Chris Johnson, Lucas Walowit, Tom Richards and Sue Richards
The meeting was called to order.
The minutes from the previous meeting were read and were approved as read.
Eagle Scout candidate Lucas Walowit presented details on his project in the Hillcrest Park. He has met with Steve and the representative from Gerber equipment at the Della Street Park. He now believes that the project will take 3 days of work, rather than the initial estimate of 2 days. The Town crew will assist the project with excavation for the sand play area. Saturday, May 12th will be the second day of work, and will hopefully include volunteer labor from the neighborhood. Volunteers will be needed to dig holes and pour concrete for bases of the equipment. Landscaping fabric will be laid down and a border will be installed. The third day of work will include unloading the sand and placing the equipment on the bases. Final costs have not yet been established, but the estimates are coming within the range of the approved budget of $3500. Lucas has created a flier to recruit volunteers and will circulate the flier and it will be provided to the Town Hall to upload to the website.
Tom Richards, another Eagle Scout candidate is interested in creating a new hiking trail within the Town Park by connecting two existing trails and made his presentation to the committee. The work would be to create approximately 250 feet of new trail. He reported that the cost estimates from Stoughton Lumber are coming in at about $500. Tom will check to see if there are wood chips available from the TORC. If not, then wood chips will need to be purchased from the City of Madison. Tom is proposing that his work date will be sometime mid-June. Mark moved to approve this project up to a limit of $600. Bob seconded the motion. Motion carried. Steve will sign the paperwork to be sent to the Scout office. Steve will present this project to the Town Board at its May 1st meeting.
Steve indicated to the committee that there is an area of brush that needs to be removed and cleared within the Della Street Park. It might be possible to chip up some of the brush to be used within the park. The committee has decided to do this clean-up on the same date (May 12th) that the neighborhood will be doing its volunteer work. The committee will be working there from 10am to 2pm.
Steve has been in contact with Dave Wood and he has proceeded with the spraying on the trails within the Town Park, and he continues to do so. He has submitted an invoice for the materials and Steve will let the Town staff know to pay the bill.
The next meeting will be Monday, April 30, 2012 at 6:30pm.
Mark moved to adjourn and Bob seconded the motion. Motion carried.
