TOWN OF OREGON PARK COMMITTEE

Present: Janine Jensen, Mark Brylski, Steve Root, Bob Johnson
Also present: Chris Johnson
The meeting was called to order.
The minutes from the previous meeting were read. Bob moved to approve the minutes. Mark seconded the motion. Motion carried.
The kiosk project in the Bicentennial Park containing a refurbished Bicentennial sign as well as the Todd Anderson Memorial sign has begun. The majority of the project is being completed at the scout’s home, and Steve will be informed when everything is ready to be installed in the park.
Steve reported that he has not heard anything additional from the other Eagle Scout candidates. He suspects that things have slowed a bit due to the beginning of school.
On September 10, 2011, the Byrne family planted a 15-18 foot high linden tree in the Town Park as a memorial for Harold Byrne. It is a beautiful tree from Winterland Nursery in the township. The family brought along water and gave the tree a good soaking. The family has ordered a bench and plaque for placement near the tree, but it hasn’t arrived yet. It is believed that the bench should arrive mid-October and Steve is hoping to contact the Oregon Observer to take photos of the completed project. The family has agreed to provide approximately 5 gallons of water per week for the tree.
Steve reported that there has been some vandalism to the “Hot Coals” sign, as well as the Town Park ordinance sign. Bob offered to get a cost estimate for replacement signs from Signs By Tomorrow. On a related note, Steve remarked that the parking lot in the Town Park has seen a lot of “donuts” being done and vehicles leaving rubber.
Steve has received information about a water based herbicide for spraying of weeds around the playground equipment from a company called Total Solutions and will be giving the information to the town crew.
Jen Williams contacted Steve. She has a Cub Scout troop that needs to do a service project. They would like to clear brush from the paths in the park. The committee would like to be informed of the possible date so that they could potentially participate in the event.
Alliant Energy contacted Steve. They would like to stage equipment in the parking lot near Kennedy Park for about 2 weeks. Visitors to the park would still be able to turn their cars around to get out of the park.
Laura Guyer from the Dane County Lake and Water Resources committee made an appearance before the town board about the Lyman Anderson land. There are no meetings currently scheduled but will be soon to gather public input. They have made the request to use the Town Hall. There have been some decisions made about the process. A planner will be hired, the history of the farm will be gathered, an analysis of the soil will be completed, public meetings will be held and then a plan concept will be developed with input from the Town and park committee.
Steve has not yet made contact with the village about their bike path project, but hopes to very soon.
The next meeting will be Monday, October 3, 2011 at 6:30 pm.
Mark moved to adjourn and Bob seconded the motion. Motion carried.
