TOWN OF OREGON PARK COMMITTEE
Monday October 3, 2011 @6:30pm
Present: Janine Jensen, Mark Brylski, Steve Root, Bob Johnson
Also present: Chris Johnson
The meeting was called to order.
The minutes from the previous meeting were read and approved as read.
Steve provided an update on the status of the various Eagle Scout projects. Steve met with Lucas Walowit who is interested in a project in the neighborhood park off of Sheil Road. He has been contacting the neighbors about what they would like to see in the park. Steve has agreed to meet again with Lucas and also with a representative from Gerber playground equipment. Gerber will hopefully provide a vision of what this neighborhood park could use. Lucas anticipates appearing before the committee at their November meeting with a proposal.
There were 2 separate work days on the kiosk project in the Bicentennial Park; one on September 24thand one on October 1st. The majority of the project is being completed at the scout’s home. Steve has not yet been informed when the project will be ready to be installed in the park.
Steve reported that he met with Jen Williams, and Cub Scout pack number 352 on September 25th. The group cleared up 3 fallen trees. This was a service project for the Cub Scouts.
Steve reported while walking the trails in the Bicentennial Park, he noticed that there needs to be some tree trimming of trees over the trails. Bob moved and Mark seconded the motion to have Nikolas Tree Service provide the committee with an estimate of cost for this work. Motion carried. Steve will present this to the Town Board, and if given approval, hopefully the work will be completed in November.
There has been no progress made on the Ravenoaks Eagle project, but the candidate has confirmed that he is still interested in proceeding.
Bob presented a proposed new logo for the park committee. This would be placed on the replacement park ordinance signs. Mark suggested that a minor change be made to the new signs indicating that hot coals need to be placed in the specific container marked for them. Each sign would cost $93. The committee is considering 10 new signs. Bob moved to make the proposal to the Town Board and Mark seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Steve met with Phil Harms, who is on the Village Board. They discussed the grant the Village received for the proposed bike path. The Village Board is not certain about the timing of the work, since they received a $250,000 grant, but must fund raise a matching amount and don’t have the funds at this time. Steve hopes to meet with the Village Park committee to discuss it further. He is also interested in making contacts to see if the Town of Oregon can apply for any grants.
Steve met with Denise, the Town Clerk to try to upload photos he had taken at the Harold Byrne memorial tree planting, and also at the Cub Scout event. Unfortunately, they were unable to upload them. He will re-try with the hopes of posting the photos on the Town’s website, to give the park committee a larger presence on the Town’s website.
The next meeting will be Monday, November 14, 2011 at 6:30 pm.
Bob moved to adjourn and Mark seconded the motion. Motion carried.
