TOWN OF OREGON PARK COMMITTEE
Monday July 11, 2011 @6:30pm
Present: Janine Jensen, Mark Brylski
Also present: Chris Johnson, Liz Kepplinger, Village of Oregon.
The meeting was not called to order because there was not a quorum present.
The minutes from the previous meeting were read. Minutes will need to be approved at the next meeting.
Ms. Kepplinger uses the Oregon Town Park regularly, even though she is not a citizen of the township. She complimented the township on the wonderful park, and she appreciates all of the hard work that has been done by the Eagle Scouts. However, as a user of the Town Park, she would like to promote more maintenance within the Town Park. She feels that the trails need to be cut back and maintained and she would like to see a management plan for the garlic mustard. She informed the committee that the DNR has a protocol for control, which includes a 2 year schedule. She doesn’t want to see use of Round-Up as this would kill all vegetation. The discussion was about the possible advantages of pulling the garlic mustard, however it was decided that this solution was probably not sufficient. Another issue is the wild parsnip which is crowding the trails. This plant, if touched and the skin is exposed to sunlight, will cause painful blisters. She recommended that a sign be installed to warn users of the trails of the possible results of touching the plants. The committee thanked Ms. Kepplinger for her input and concern.
Mark reported that Steve received approval for one of the recent Eagle Scout projects.
Chris showed a sample of signage that the committee could use to meet the obligation for the DNR contribution to the Town Park.
The members present went to visit the Town Park for an assessment of the invasive species of weeds that were discussed in the meeting.
The next meeting will be Monday, August 8, 2011 at 6:30 pm.
