TOWN OF OREGON PARK COMMITTEE
Monday December 12, 2011 @6:30pm
Present: Janine Jensen, Mark Brylski, Steve Root, Bob Johnson
Also present: Chris Johnson, Alec Meier, Joe Meier, Tim LeBrun, Austin Beranen, Lucas Walowit and Mr. Walowit
The meeting was called to order.
The minutes from the previous meeting were read and were approved as read.
Alec Meier, Eagle Scout candidate from Troop 50 presented his completed project report. Alec’s project was the creation and installation of a kiosk at the Bicentennial Park. Alec reported that after 174 hours of work, the project was completed on December 4, 2011. He built the kiosk, re-painted the Bicentennial sign and placed it and the Todd Anderson memorial plaque on the kiosk, along with a laminated map of the trails within the park. The kiosk has a metal roof and soffit and the area around it has been landscaped. The committee was very pleased and congratulated Alec on his success. Steve informed him that he would need to make a final presentation to the Town Board and then Steve would sign off on his official scout paperwork.
Lucas Walowit presented his proposal for his Eagle Scout project. He wants to create and install a 24 foot X 14 foot play area with play equipment for 2 – 12 year olds in Hillcrest neighborhood park. He proposes purchasing 2 different pieces of playground equipment from the Gerber manufacturer. He anticipates that the project will be completed in 3 days of work. Excavation will be done by the Town crew. Lucas plans on recruiting volunteer labor from the neighborhood. The expected total cost of the project, including equipment and materials will be approximately $3318. Discussion turned to making sure the project becomes vandalism-proof. Several suggestions were made and noted on how to make minor adjustments that could help. Bob moved to approve the project with a cost ceiling of $3500 and Mark seconded the motion. Motion carried. Steve will take the recommendation to the Town Board at their next meeting. Lucas anticipates the work being done in April or May, 2012. Mark suggested that we might need to have the Hillcrest Park surveyed to be aware of the actual boundaries. The committee agreed and Steve indicated that he would look into it.
The work by Nikolas Tree Service began on December 8th. They hope to have the work completed in both parks by the end of December. At that time, Steve hopes to walk both parks before agreeing to pay the invoice.
Steve indicated that he hopes Jen Williams will be able to attend the committee’s January meeting to discuss a possible park policy that would allow individuals to walk their horses up to the Town Park (but not ride them in the park).
The Town Treasurer will provide the Park committee with a quarterly accounting of the park funds, including detail of available funds.
The next meeting will be Monday, January 30, 2012 at 6:30 pm.
Bob moved to adjourn and Mark seconded the motion. Motion carried.
