TOWN OF OREGON PARK COMMITTEE
Monday April 25, 2011 @6:30pm
Present: Janine Jensen, Mark Brylski, Bob Johnson
Also present: Chris Johnson, Max Schmidt, Eagle Scout Candidate, Lucas Walowit, Eagle Scout Candidate and his father Todd, and Mitch Auping, Eagle Scout Candidate
The meeting was called to order by Bob Johnson.
The minutes from the previous meeting were read. Mark moved to approve the minutes and Bob seconded the motion.
Lucas presented his proposal for his Eagle Scout project. Lucas’ proposal actually contains 5 sub-projects at the Bicentennial Park, which include: re-painting the Bicentennial sign and designing and doing landscaping around the sign, replacing and/or repairing some existing trail linings, create a new park book, containing re-mapping and new photos (which will be available for the Town’s web page), and replace the mailbox which holds the books for use in the park. Lucas didn’t have any budget numbers, but the committee informed him that the Bicentennial Park has its own funds available, so funding should not be a problem. Bob moved to approve the project, and Mark modified the motion by adding that the Bicentennial Park funding be used first before taping into general park funds. Motion carried.
Max Schmidt provided an update on his project in Ravenoaks Park. His project includes removing brush and downed trees around a proposed trail system within the park. These trails would be 3-4 feet in width. His project does not include creating the trails. His crew has had one work day already and another one is scheduled for late April or early May. One of the goals of his project is to create limits where ATV’s can travel. The logs have been stacked and are available to neighbors who might be interested in firewood, but the brush will need to get to the TORC. The cost for this project will be very minimal, basically for tape and/or stakes to delineate the proposed trails. Max will be bringing in before and after photos for both the committee and for the Town Board.
Mitch Auping, who has completed the work on his project, which includes 2 cedar benches in the Town Park by the equipment and 1 in Ravenoaks Park. These benches are anchored down by anchors into concrete. The total cost of the 3 benches is approximately $500, which is close to the proposed budget. Mitch will be making his presentation to the Town Board on May 3rd.
Bob moved and Mark seconded the motion to approve Chris Shrader’s project of tree planting in the Town Park, with Kathy Esch, being advisor for this project. Motion carried.
The next meeting will be Monday, May 23, 2011 at 6:30 pm.
Bob moved to adjourn and Mark seconded the motion. Motion carried.
