Monday March 22, 2010 @ 6:30PM
Present: Steve Root, Janine Jensen, Mark Brylski, Bob Johnson, Raandi Schmidt
The meeting was called to order by Steve Root.
The minutes from the previous meeting were read and approved
Steve reported that he met with Mr. Dave Woods about placing birdhouses in the Town Park. The Town Board approved his offer to place the birdhouses, so Steve and Mr. Woods placed 5 bluebird houses made of PVC pipe in the Town Park. These birdhouses are located in 3 different open areas, with one being near the entry sign to the park. The houses are wired to metal stakes. Steve let Mr. Woods know that if he was interested in additional projects, the committee would welcome his birdhouses in any of the town parks. This will probably be all for this year, because it is most beneficial to place the birdhouses in very early spring.
The clean-up date for the parks has been tentatively set for Saturday, May 1st, with a rain date of May 8th. These dates will appear in the next town newsletter. Projects include weed control, garbage collection and re-surfacing of the picnic tables in the Town Park, Kennedy Park and possibly Ravenoaks Park. We may not be able to work with the woodchips that are needed. The company that the committee has utilized in the past from Green Bay is not able to provide the chips. Steve is researching other options, and may investigate the cost of spreading the chips in addition to purchasing and delivering.
Steve reported that Kathy Esch has been working on a spring project for the Village of Oregon, so she is not available for a spring project in the township.
The DNR has sent the application for an extension through December 31, 2010 and Steve will complete the request. Hopefully the committee will hear about the approval by late in April.
Mr. Dave Compton from the Brooklyn Cub Scouts has inquired about the park clean-up event. It is likely that the Cub Scouts will be assisting in the project. The committee will make certain to have plenty of trash bags to handle the trash collection.
Steve reported that he has been contacted by Mr. Jay Bonnell who is a local GeoCacher. These individuals participate in the game-type event searching for some type of hidden treasure using GPS. This group has requested planting a "treasure" (most likely an inexpensive item such as a toothbrush) within Ravenoaks Park. The treasure would be placed in an off-path location and hidden there. The committee was agreeable with this request and Steve will take it to the Town Board for approval.
There were no scouts who were available for an appearance before the committee. Steve will contact Troop 50 to inquire about the status of Eagle Scout projects. Raandi asked if there were any specific needs within the parks and the committee mentioned trail building. Raandi has a son in Troop 168 who is looking for a possible project. She will attend the next meeting to inquire about possible projects.
Mark informed the committee that the Della Street park might need some trees cut and that the area where the old pipe was removed needs to be filled in.
The Town Park will be in need of some type of container to capture the hot coals from personal charcoal grills.
The next meeting will be Monday, April 19, 2010 @ 6:30pm. The committee will meet at the Town Park and tour all parks. There will then be a short meeting afterward to evaluate necessary work. If the weather is rainy, the committee will meet at the town hall.
Raandi moved to adjourn and Bob seconded the motion. Motion carried.
