Monday July 12, 2010 @ 6:30PM
Present: Steve Root, Janine Jensen, Mark Brylski, Bob Johnson, Raandi Schmidt Also present: Chris Johnson, Lora Warner (291-0555), Caroline Templeton (835-6485), Gloria Compton (835-1758), Gary Wackett, and Eagle Scout candidate Ryan McGuine.
The meeting was called to order by Steve Root.
The minutes from the previous meeting were read and approved.
Eagle Scout candidate, Ryan McGuine made his presentation of his completed scout project in the Town Park. Total hours worked on the project was 61 hours, 5 minutes, and material costs were $332.14. Ryan provided both “before” and “after” photos. There were surplus wood chips, which Ryan was able to spread on the trail past his portion of the trail. The final paperwork for his project has been completed and the committee commended him for all of his efforts.
Ms. Templeton, Warner and Compton were in attendance to hear the Della Street park project, but unfortunately, the Eagle Scout candidate working on this project has been very active in the marching band and hasn’t gotten back to the project. Steve has talked with his scoutmaster, who assures the committee that the scout is still interested in the project. Mark Brylski informed the neighbors about the project. Janine read the report from July, 2009 about the project. The committee had approved $16,000 for improvements and equipment. It was suggested that perhaps to control the costs, the swing set only needed to have the swings replaced and not the entire piece of equipment. Another suggestion was to consider putting in a small basketball court. The committee told the neighbors that they would consider adding a gazebo type structure to another scout project. The neighbors indicated to the committee that equipment to be considered should cover all age ranges, since there are now very young children back in the development.
Gary Wackett presented a 6-month review of activity in the parks. There have been 187 park checks and several verbal warnings for late hours, especially in the Town Park. Gary reported that there were few reports of fireworks in the Town Park for July 4th. Gary also reported that the thistles have been sprayed, and there needs to be some more wood chips around the equipment. Gary reported that the Town Park is being used more and more for a dog park, but that it has been cleaned up very well. Before presenting his formal written report, he informed the committee that the “Hot Coal” sign has been installed. Gary also reported that he has been checking into reports about ATV’s running in Ravenoaks. Raandi mentioned that the ATV’s have created some nice hiking trails and that they were not all bad. It was decided that Raandi and Steve would walk the trails in August to evaluate. Steve also reported that wood chips would be delivered to Ravenoaks this fall.
Steve reported that he received the letter of extension from the DNR. The extension has been given until June 30, 2011. Steve talked with the Scout master of Troop 50, Tim LeBrun who indicated that there may be up to 3 additional scout projects.
Steve reported that Garrett Frankson is having difficulty with the proposed 8-sided roof over the gazebo at the Town Hall. Steve contacted Mr. Phil Harms to review the proposed roof. After the review, Mr. Harms reported that this roof is indeed too difficult for a scout to consider. The committee agreed that the simpler design would work just fine. Garrett will be advised to attend the next meeting to discuss the project.
Steve will be meeting with both Troop 50 and 168 to discuss the committee’s list of potential projects.
Steve presented the maintenance list of park projects to the Town Board for review. This list will be posted in the garage and it is hoped that when the new employee begins on July 19th, that more regular park maintenance will begin.
The next meeting will be Monday, August 16, 2010 @ 6:30pm.
Raandi moved to adjourn and Bob seconded the motion. Motion carried.
