Monday January 25, 2010 @ 6:30PM
Present: Steve Root, Janine Jensen, Bob Johnson, Raandi Schmidt
Also present: Gary Wackett
The meeting was called to order by Steve Root.
The minutes from the previous meeting were read and approved.
Gary Wackett presented his Constable report for the parks for 2009. He made 212 park checks during the year. He issued 8 warnings for after hours violations in the Town Park and there was one arrest for underage drinking. He recovered 2 abandoned domestic rabbits and turned them in to the Humane Society. He was also called to investigate a bag of decaying bones, which turned out to be a decayed dog. Gary reported that the park is used frequently by young families. It is also patrolled by the Dane County Sheriff's office. Gary's overall assessment is that there has been a lot less damage in the park compared to previous years. But, this could change in the near future. The Village of Oregon will be getting a drug dog and this could potentially push any drug activity into other areas, including the Town Park.
Gary and Bob Johnson informed the committee that they are both involved in Emergency Management. Pre-planning for any programming is in the beginning stages and it might be possible that, if a large space is needed, the Town Park might be considered for such an event.
Steve reported that there is some graffiti on the picnic tables and when the warmer weather returns, Steve will sand the tables to remove it. He also reported that Kathy Esch may be attending a committee meeting in the near future to discuss another possible project. It was decided that the next park clean up day will be set at the next meeting.
The committee has decided to request another 6 month extension from the DNR for the submittal of the Phase 2. This will allow the committee to consider potential Eagle Scout projects.
There were no Eagle Scout candidates at the meeting to make any presentations due to high school final exams. The following are planned Eagle Scout projects: 1. Cedar benches which are being made. The materials have been purchased and the Scout has been reimbursed; 2. gazebo project at the Town Hall; and 3. park equipment for Sheil Park. Another potential project is possible trail building.
The committee has agreed to hire out the mowing of the parks for this coming spring and summer and will make this recommendation to the Town Board after the election in April.
The next meeting will be Monday, February 22, 2010 @ 6:30pm.
Bob moved to adjourn and Raandi seconded the motion. Motion carried.
