Monday May 11, 2009 @ 6:30PM
Present: Steve Root, Janine Jensen, Mark Brylski, Bob Johnson
The meeting was called to order by Steve Root.
The minutes from the previous meeting were read. Bob made the motion to approve. Mark seconded. Motion carried.
The mowing has begun in the parks and is generally looking good. One area of improvement is that trimming needs to be done around the posts in the Town Park. This will give the park a more manicured appearance.
In the Town Park, Bartell has re-surfaced the paths and parking lot. The plan is to return on May 13th, weather permitting to do the striping. The request to DNR for an extension for the park has been submitted. There has not been a response from DNR as of today.
The tree planting has been completed in Kennedy and Ravenoaks parks. In spite of the heavy rain, the white birch was planted in Kenney Park in between storms on April 25th. The tree planting in Ravenoaks was completed on Sunday morning, April 26th. All seems to have gone well. The trees have been staked and are beginning to bud out.
In the Bicentennial Park, the tree cutting has been completed by Nikolas Professional Tree & Shrub Care and the payment has been authorized. Steve reported that he has received a phone call from a resident asking about collecting the wood. The committee discussed the issue and ultimately, Bob moved to recommend to the Town Board that a permit system be set up and Mark seconded the motion. Motion carried. This individual could then apply for the permit and then the committee would mark the wood that would be available for collection.
Steve did a walk-through in the wooded area of Ravenoaks Park. While there are no formal trails, individuals have created paths for hiking. He feels that there are trees that need to be trimmed within this area and will request a quote from Nikolas Tree & Shrub to cut some of the oaks and hickories. The committee then hopes that an Eagle Scout candidate might consider working on creating official trails within the park.
Steve reported that the Eagle Scout candidate interested in making a proposal for Hillcrest Park improvement is planning on making a presentation to the committee at its next meeting. He has done a survey of the neighborhood and is ready to report on the needs of the neighborhood. The second Eagle Scout candidate is getting quotes for his project of benches in other parks.
The ordinance signs for the Town Park will be repaired and re-installed after the striping is completed.
Bob made the recommendation that the committee inform the Town Board of some of the potential costs of equipment replacement and improvements within the parks. This will help educate new board members of the possible expenses for the committee as the Board reviews existing funds.
The next meeting will be Monday, June 1, 2009 @ 6:30pm.
Mark moved to adjourn and Bob seconded the motion. Motion carried.
