Monday July 20, 2009 @ 6:30PM
Present: Steve Root, Janine Jensen, Mark Brylski
Also present: Kathy Esch, Katie Jeffris, Tim Yanacheck, Chris Shrader, Tim LeBrun
The meeting was called to order by Steve Root.
The reading of the minutes from the previous meeting was suspended.
Kathy Esch presented a couple of proposals for additional trees within the Town Park. She introduced Mr. Yanacheck, who is willing to fund the project(s) and Katie Jeffris, who has agreed to coordinate the project, with Kathy serving as adviser. There will be members of 3 Girl Scout troops and members of the Honor Society to assist with the project.
The first proposal is to plant up to ten trees along the Town Park Road. After some discussion, it was decided that the farmer adjacent to the property needs to be included in the discussion. The second proposal includes 10 trees to be planted by the Sheil division entrance to the park. The proposed timeline is the planting to occur on October 18, 2009 at 1pm with a rain date of October 25, 2009. Quotes for costs of the trees have been received from Jung's and Winterland. We are still waiting to hear from Home Depot, which in the past has provided the best cost. At this point, Mr. Yanacheck agreed to fund both projects if the committee were to approve both. Mark moved to approve both projects, with the consent of the farmer on final placement of the trees. Steve seconded the motion. Motion carried. Steve will make the presentation to the Town Board at the next meeting.
Chris Shrader, Eagle Scout candidate made his presentation for upgrading the Della Street park in the Hillcrest neighborhood. He would like to propose replacing the swing set, and monkey bars. He would put in the new swing set, Mobius climber, balance beam, trash receptacles and new picnic table. He sent a survey to 51 households within the neighborhood. He got about a 10% return, with several suggestions. The swing set replacement will be approximately $1925, and this set includes an infant seat. The Mobius climber, which would replace the monkey bars, is for ages 5-12. This would cost $10,935. The balance beam, which is s-shaped, would cost $632. The existing slide would remain in place. All of this playground equipment would come from 1 vendor. There is a picnic table in the park and it is handicap accessible. So the proposal is for one additional 8 foot long table, at the cost of $850. A bike rack would cost $450 and a 3-bin trash receptacle would cost $1295. A proposed grill would add $208 to the cost of the project. Wood chips and cement would bring the total cost of the project to $17,975. After some discussion, it was decided that there would only need to be a single trash receptacle, and the grill would be eliminated. The bike rack would be added to a future request. At the suggestion of Mr. Lebrun, it was decided to attempt to sell the old equipment on Craig's List to reduce expenditures. Mark agreed to meet with the scout and leader to perhaps re-design the layout of the equipment within the park. Mark moved to accept the proposal to a maximum cost level of $16,000. Steve seconded the motion. Motion carried. Steve will present this proposal to the Town Board. If the Board accepts the proposal, Steve will sign the scout paperwork for the Eagle Scout project.
Steve requested that the minutes show that the level of park mowing has been insufficient this summer to meet the needs of the township and that he would present this at the Board meeting.
Steve reported that he completed the DNR compliance self-inspection report for the Town Park.
The next meeting will be Monday, August 24, 2009 @ 6:30pm.
Mark moved to adjourn and Steve seconded the motion. Motion carried.
