Monday August 24, 2009 @ 6:30PM
Present: Steve Root, Janine Jensen, Mark Brylski, Bob Johnson
The meeting was called to order by Steve Root.
The minutes from the previous meeting were approved.
The first proposal to plant up to ten trees along the Town Park road was not presented to the Town Board. After discussing the proposal with the farmer and seeing what shade from trees can do to crop land, the proposal was dropped. The proposal including 10 trees to be planted by the Sheil division entrance to the park was presented to the Town Board on Aug. 4, 2009 and was accepted. Kathy Esch has been informed of the approval. The project is scheduled for Oct. 18th, with a rain date of October 25th.
Steve presented to the Town Board Chris Shrader's Eagle Scout proposal for upgrading the Della Street Park in the Hillcrest neighborhood with a cap of $16,000. Mark met with the scout and leader to discuss a possible re-design of the layout of the equipment within the park on July 25th. They discussed possible paths in addition to the location of the park equipment. Mark met with the next door neighbors who informed Mark that the park is not being mowed by the neighbors, but by the Town crew. This neighbor also indicated that he has not witnessed much activity in the park in recent months. However, Mark also talked with other neighbors who suggested that perhaps if a shelter were built more neighbors would gather there on a regular basis and create more of a community. Mark and Chris left the meeting with the plan that Chris and his scout master would stake out where the equipment could be placed and then re-connect with Mark. Unfortunately, Mark has not heard anything since. Until the Eagle Scout candidate approaches the committee, the plan is in limbo.
Kathy Esch communicated with Steve indicating that she has a proposal for shrubs and flowers that will be donated by an individual for beautification around the park signs. The Town Board has approved this proposal. Unfortunately, this project has been placed on hold due to a family emergency for Ms. Esch. The project will be delayed but not cancelled.
After some discussion, it was decided that Steve should present to the Town Board at its next meeting a proposal that should an individual approach the park committee to trim trees/cut dead trees in the parks and can present proof of insurance, the individual would be granted permission. Bob moved and Mark seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Mark presented county maps of the various parks. The committee discussed that the park land across the street from the Della Street Park could use some trees, if there is a future discussion of possible projects.
The next meeting will be Monday, September 28, 2009 @ 6:30pm.
Mark moved to adjourn and Bob seconded the motion. Motion carried.
