Monday October 13, 2008 @ 6:30PM
Present: Steve Root, Janine Jensen, Mark Brylski, Bob Johnson
The meeting was called to order by Steve Root.
The minutes from the previous meeting were read. Motion made to approve. Motion carried.
The tree cutting in the Town Park went very well. The contractor, Nikolas Professional Tree and Shrub Care, will return in November to trim the live oak trees, to avoid the possibility of oak wilt. In Kennedy Park, the cottonwood tree was completely hollow and therefore has been removed and cleared away. Steve commended the efforts of the Town Crew. The contractor has been paid for the work that has been performed to date.
Steve received a bid from a seal coating company from Brooklyn and made a recommendation to accept this bid to the Town Board. The Board approved the $3226 bid. This bid includes work on the parking lot and hard surface trail throughout the park. The work is planned for this fall and next spring. The price remains guaranteed.
Eagle Scout candidate, Dan Smeaton has completed his project. He and his crew have used all of the wood chips and the area has been cleaned up. Steve has signed off on the project, due to a time issue. Dan has agreed to appear before both the committee and the Town Board to present a report on his project. Steve has not yet heard from the other scout.
Steve presented to the Town Board the proposed work by Nikolas Professional Tree & Shrub in the Lake Harriet cemetery. This work includes downing 12 elm trees. The Town Board has approved this expenditure and agreed to use park funds that will be reimbursed. Mr. Pentington, who has been doing research and restoration in the cemetery has volunteered to remove the wood once the trees are down.
Steve reported that Charter Cable met him in Ravenoaks Park to walk a proposed site for some trenching. Charter wanted to replace an old cable, which as it turned out, was not located on town property, but access was needed through park land. The work has been completed.
Steve reported that he received a notice from the state's Park's Division about the possibility of participating in a gypsy moth suppression project. The committee is not aware of any need, but Steve will turn the information over to the Town for review.
The park committee has received DNR notification about the grant expiration. The committee needs to complete the paperwork before December, and the clerks can help after the election. However, there is an opportunity to request an extension. The committee has decided to request an extension of the expiration date. This will provide time for all of the Eagle Scout projects to be included.
There is no new vandalism in the parks to be reported.
There has not yet been a decision regarding the post in Della Street Park.
Bob will fill in as a contact for the committee while Steve is gone on vacation until mid-November.
The next meeting will be December 1, 2008 @ 6:30pm.
Mark moved to adjourn and Bob seconded the motion. Motion carried.
