Monday June 2, 2008 @ 6:30PM
Present: Steve Root, Janine Jensen, Mark Brylski, Bob Johnson, Raandi Schmidt
Also present: Gary Wackett, Matt Weber
The meeting was called to order by Steve Root.
The minutes from the previous meeting were read. Motion made to approve as read. Motion carried.
There have not been anymore inquiries about renting the parks for spring parties, so the committee will not be looking at rental policy at this time.
Steve thanked Bob Johnson for his efforts involved in laying the forms and helping with the cement for the picnic table and benches at the Town Hall.
Steve reported that it appears that about 6 trees in the Town Park have died since being planted in April, and a couple of these are located near the equipment. The committee is uncertain as to the watering schedule that was created by Kathy Esch.
Steve met with Boy Scout Troop 50 during their meeting in the end of May. He presented a list of potential projects. The troop has up to 7 candidates for Eagle, and Steve feels there may be up to 5 that are interested in projects in the township, with one project being a prairie restoration in the Town Park.
Steve has been unable to connect with the State Arborist, but will continue trying to get him here to look at the tree in question.
Steve then introduced Matt Weber, who has been hired to work in the parks, in addition to other tasks. Steve shared with the committee and with Matt various tasks associated with the parks, with the Bicentennial Park being an exception. Mark Brylski requested that one task in the Della Street park be added. Mark would like to see a potential dangerous pipe removed. Matt will check into it. Mark also requested that a potential trail through the prairie area from the Sheil division. Steve will walk the possible site and bring an aerial photo to the next meeting for a decision on possible location. Steve informed the committee about the difference with the Bicentennial Park. Any work in this park could potentially be a service project for an organization.
Gary Wackett reported that he had met with Kathy Esch, who had reported that a neighbor of Kennedy Park admitted to cutting down 2 trees that were located in the park. He also had the opportunity to meet with this neighbor who now denies having done anything to the trees. Gary and Kathy tried to locate the site where the trees had been removed and were unable to do so. Therefore Gary didn't feel he could proceed with any legal action other than give the neighbor a warning.
Gary reported that the only trouble lately in the Town Park is with speed on Town Park Road. If the problem continues, the committee will make a recommendation to the Town Board about possible speed humps.
The report from Ravenoaks Park is that the picnic tables are quite weathered. It was decided that new tables will be budgeted in the next year. It also appears that the ball diamond continues to be used.
The next meeting will be July 7, 2008 @ 6:30pm.
Raandi moved to adjourn and Bob seconded the motion. Motion carried.
