Monday January 7, 2008 @ 6:30PM
Present: Steve Root, Janine Jensen, Mark Brylski, Bob Johnson
Also present: Scout Master Wollin, Kathy Esch
The meeting was called to order by Steve Root.
The minutes from the previous meeting were read. Motion made to approve as read. Motion carried.
Scout Master Wollin presented to the committee an example of the proposed plagues for the sign delineating the Eagle Scout projects. The plagues will be red with white writing and list the name of the scout and what his project was. The committee was very impressed and gave the approval to proceed with ordering them. He expects the plagues to be completed very soon.
Kathy Esch approached the committee with the request to plant more trees. She would like to plant 4 more trees on the north side of the equipment. She proposes to plant trees in the Town Park. She has a Girl Scout troop who is interested in assisting with the project. She made a request of the committee to allow her to make a proposal for tree planting in the Town Park. Steve told Kathy that the committee would be interested in trees that are 6-8' tall and be placed around the equipment. Kathy will make a proposal for medium-growth native trees. Steve mentioned that there is a nursery in Walworth that has an annual sale each spring where all trees that are for sale are bare root and are for $12, regardless of size. Kathy will create the proposal for the next meeting. The proposed planting is for later in April, and the committee could incorporate this planting with their annual park work. Bob moved to approve the request and Steve seconded the motion. Motion carried. It appears that possible dates for the plantings could be April 20th or 26th.
Steve reported that the pile of wood chips that was left in the Town Park has been removed. The town crew removed the chips late in November.
Steve met with the DNR in early January. The DNR had requested that they wanted to set a closing date for Phase 2. In review of Phase 2, it appears that the work that was proposed is very close to being completed. The following items were proposed: entrance and ordinance signs, asphalt of the road and parking lot, markings of the parking lot, and paved trails. There was also a proposed item of safety fencing between the park and the farmer's property near the park. The farmer has since requested that the fencing not be installed, as it would impede his working his land. Steve informed the DNR that there are potentially 3 more Eagle Scout projects in store for the Town Park, and this labor could be used for the Town's share of the cost of Phase 2. With that in mind, the DNR agreed to an end date of December, 2008.
Bob reported that he has inspected all signs in the parks, and they all appear to be fine. He is also planning on contacting the Oregon High School shop class to see if they are interested in providing an estimate of costs associated with a pavilion for the Town Hall.
Mark presented several suggestions for improvements in the various parks. The committee will discuss these proposals at the next meeting.
The next meeting will be March 3, 2008 @ 6:30pm.
Mark moved to adjourn and Bob seconded the motion. Motion carried.
