Selected Park Committee Minutes
Sep 10, 2007

Monday September 10, 2007 @ 6:30PM

Present: Steve Root, Janine Jensen, Bob Johnson, Mark Brylski, Raandi Schmidt

The meeting was called to order by Steve Root.

The minutes from the previous meeting were read. Motion made to approve as read. Motion carried.

Town Park:
Steve reported that he discovered graffiti on the picnic tables and some of the equipment in the Town Park, but it cannot be determined if it was there when the park was closed for the month of July, or if it has happened since it was re-opened. However, due to the difficulty associated with removing the graffiti, it could have been done before the closing. And according to the Town Constable, there has not been much activity in the Town Park since it has been re-opened.

The new Town Park sign has been installed by the Eagle Scout candidate and his work detail. The committee is very happy with the sign. The Eagle Scout will be returning to eliminate grass underneath the sign and place wood chips to control weeds.

Steve will be ordering new plaques for the benches, to replace those that were vandalized.

The sign that has recorded Eagle Scout projects in the township and will be located at the Town Hall is close to being completed. The Town Hall staff has contacted "Digger's Hotline" to determine exact location for installation.

Bob Johnson discussed the possible cement pad for the donated ceramic table and benches. Bob suggested that the committee consider a gazebo for the picnic table rather than the cement pad. He is checking into the setbacks and is willing to talk to the high school classes to possibly draw the plans and assist with the construction. Mark expressed some concern for the location of this gazebo, since there is the possibility that the town hall may not remain in the same location and he would not like to see money spent on something that is not permanent. However, Steve suggested that at the town hall, this type of structure may get a lot of use when the facility is rented. Steve also suggested that there could be an informational type of board near the facility to talk about the parks. Bob will continue to investigate and bring back additional information for the next meeting.

Bicentennial Park:
Steve has contacted Chuck Sterns about the new gate. The Eagle Scout candidate made arrangements for work to begin in the park on Saturday, September 8th. The Scout was able to get the wood chipper through the fence entrance without expanding the entrance at this time. Therefore, the new gate will be ordered at some time in the near future. The scout and his crew applied the poison on the sumac and they are very pleased with the results.

Kennedy Park:
The office staff received a phone call about the cottonwood tree located in the park. There is a broken branch that needs to be dealt with. Steve has talked to the town crew and it will be trimmed as soon as possible, considering the crew is temporarily down to one person. The neighbor that called expressed some concern that the tree may fall onto his home. Steve has determined that this is highly unlikely, but Steve volunteered to get the State of Wisconsin Arborist down for an evaluation. The committee agreed.

The next meeting will be October 1, 2007 @ 6:30pm.

Bob moved to adjourn and Mark seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Respectfully submitted,

Janine Jensen
