Park Committee Meeting Minutes
Monday August 6, 2007 @ 6:30PM
Present: Steve Root, Janine Jensen, Bob Johnson, Mark Brylski
Also present: Adam Beranek, John Beranek, Jake & Mr. Butterfield, Mr. Wollin
The meeting was called to order by Steve Root.
The minutes from the previous meeting were read. Motion made to approve as read. Motion carried.
Eagle Scout candidate, Adam Beranek presented his project proposal to make a trail of recycled wood chips from Justin Miller's scout project in the Bicentennial Park and create new steps. Adam also proposes to have "sponsored" benches. The total cost of the project will be approximately $100. Bob moved to approved the proposal and Mark seconded the motion. Motion carried. On a related note, Steve has talked with Mr. Chuck Stearns, the nearest neighbor. He has agreed to provide access to the park through his property. Bob reported that there will need to be a gate of approximately 10 feet in width. Bob made the motion to authorize Steve to communicate these needs with Mr. Stearns. Mark seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Jake Butterfield, of the Stoughton troop 501 has walked through the Town park. His Eagle Scout project proposal is to restore a "lesser used" trail that currently goes nowhere. He will extend the trail and add wood chips to the trail. Steve reported that he has talked with the town crew and they will be able to bring wood chips for this trail. The committee was impressed and encouraged Jake to walk the site with his scout master and to create a cost proposal. Steve will report on this proposed project to the Town Board at its next meeting.
Mr. Wollin presented on behalf of his son, Tom, a drawing of the proposed sign design for the Town Park sign and the sign delineating the Eagle Scout projects in the township. Steve was able to take the lists from the scout council and point out the ones in the township. Projects from the '60's will need to be researched. The committee liked the design. Steve moved and Bob seconded the motion to place the sign listing the scout projects located at the Town Hall. The smaller sign for the Town Park will be located near the entrance to the park off of Glenway Road. This sign will probably be ready by August 13th and will be placed near the ordinance sign.
Steve presented the idea of partially re-opening the Town Park. However, the barriers would not be completely removed. However, this would not happen until the town crew has the opportunity to re-install the posts which have been removed. Bob suggested that the idea be brought before the Town Board, since it is important to have their approval. The committee agreed. Steve will make the recommendation to the Town Board. If they have any serious concerns, then arrangements will need to be made to allow the Eagle Scouts access to the park. Steve also suggested that there might possibly be a discussion about a vehicle entrance from the Sheil entrance. If the Board feels this is a possibility, Steve will recommend a public hearing on the issue.
Sheil Park: The equipment for the swings that was ordered has arrived. Mark will oversee the installation of the equipment.
The next meeting will be September 10, 2007 @ 6:30pm.
Bob moved to adjourn and Mark seconded the motion. Motion carried.
