Present: Steve Root, Janine Jensen, Bob Johnson, Nick Brashi
Meeting was called to order by Steve Root.
The minutes from the previous meeting were read. The minutes were approved as read.
Steve reported that the Eagle Scout project had been approved by the Boy Scout council and the candidate has set 2 work days in the Town Park. The first day will be Saturday, October 9th for clearing the paths of brush. The second work day will be the 16th for the application of wood chips. Steve intends to be at each event. The Eagle Scout candidate has contacted Oregon for the chips and if he’s successful, the village will provide free transportation. If the village is unable to supply the wood chips, he will go to Fitchburg, who has a supply but no means of transportation. In such a case, Steve will contact the town crew to see if they would be available to assist.
Asphalt has been laid on the Town Park Road. It appears to be a fine application. However, the edges are quite fragile, and there is a 4-5 inch drop in the shoulders. The town crew hopes to be able to apply additional gravel to the shoulders very soon. The committee discussed whether the road should be left open this winter, since it is now blacktopped. It was decided that if the shoulder work can be completed this fall, then the road is no different than any other town road and should be plowed. This will allow for use of the park by winter enthusiasts. Steve also added that after the trails have been completed, the boulders that serve as barriers will be put back in place to discourage motor traffic on those paths.
Nick suggested that with the potential for several Eagle Scout projects in the park that perhaps the committee would want to have plaques made to honor those scout projects. The committee agreed.
Steve reported that he will be contacting the other scout troop in Oregon to see if there would be any interest in Eagle projects in the Bicentennial Park. There is considerable work that is needed for brush clearing, path maintenance and possibly a controlled burn in the prairie.
There has not been any word from Sheil park or Ravenoaks as to any needs at the moment.
Bob will order a couple of picnic tables from the Kay Park Recreational company if it is determined that there is available storage space at the town hall. He will call to verify this.
Steve will be putting together a budget request for 2005 to be presented to the town board. He will also be writing an article for the town newsletter.
The next meeting has been set for Monday, November 8th, 2004 @ 6:30pm.
Bob moved to adjourn and Nick seconded the motion. Motion carried.
