TOWN OF OREGON PARK COMMITTEE
Monday, March 8, 2004 @ 6:40PM
Present: Steve Root, Janine Jensen, Nick Brashi, Bob Johnson, Raandi Schmidt
Also present: Linda Jackson
The minutes from the previous meeting were read and approved as read.
Steve informed the committee that the re-submittal for Phase 2 has been accepted by the DNR. A grant for $51,287 has been received for the time period of February24th, 2004 through June 30, 2006. This is the matching amount, with the balance coming from the park committee. There is some paperwork that needs to be completed before the committee actually receives the funding. There needs to be completed a site development map and a boundary map. Steve has received a packet that also needs to be completed. The committee is eligible for a cash advance of 25% of the project. Steve will reproduce the re-submittal proposal for all committee members. This will be reviewed prior to the next meeting.
Work dates will be established at the next meeting. In the meantime, Steve will order mulch for around the trees in Ravenoaks Park. Matting also needs to be ordered for the Town Park and for Kennedy Park. Janine agreed to look at Sheil Park to determine its needs.
Steve will contact potential Eagle scouts in both troops for possible work in the parks. Any volunteer work that the scouts may do could count in the committee’s portion of matching funds.
The committee will need to work to get bids for some of the work in phase 2, such as paving of the road and parking lot and gravel for the ADA approved pathways. Raandi Schmidt agreed to write a short article about the award for the township newsletter.
Nick got an estimate for the cost of a new sign for the town park road. The prices ranged from $50 for a 2X3 sign, to $150 for a 4X4 sign and $250 for a 4X8 sign. The committee discussed the size, and decided to go with a 4X4 sign that will say, “Road closed to motorized vehicles until further notice.”
Linda informed the committee that there has been a website created for the township. The URL is www.town.oregon.wi.us. She requested that the committee members look at the site and make comments. There is a section on the town parks that should be reviewed by the committee. Also, if the committee has any digital photos of the parks, they would be welcome.
Steve informed the committee that, unfortunately, the spreadsheets on the park survey have accidentally been destroyed. Steve will recreate the spreadsheets soon for review.
Steve informed that committee that he had met with the Town clerk about establishing a rate for rental of the town park for possible events, such as a wedding. He will be getting together with her soon to finalized discussions.
The next meeting has been set for Monday, April 5, 2004 at 6:30pm. The committee will establish work dates for the parks and also work on the plans for the implementation of Phase 2.
Bob reported that he had talked with the town crew. They moved one of the wooden picnic tables from the town park to the town hall. This table is in terrible shape due to vandalism. It is not in condition to be repaired. Bob will gather quotes for replacement cement-type tables.
Next meeting Monday, April 5, at 6:30pm.
Nick moved to adjourn and Bob seconded the motion. Motion carried.
