TOWN OF OREGON PARK COMMITTEE
Monday, January 12, 2004 @ 6:40PM
Present: Steve Root, Janine Jensen, Nick Brashi, Bob Johnson
Also present: Linda Jackson
The minutes from the previous meeting were read and approved as read.
Steve reported to the committee that he attended, on January 10th, the Eagle Scout ceremony for Alex Kox, the young man who did his project in the Bicentennial Park. The family had taken photos of the project, and Steve hopes to be able to get a set of copies to be kept in the town hall. He also indicated that Troop 50 will potentially have a couple more Eagle scout candidates, and the troop will keep the park committee in mind.
Steve plans on meeting with Stephanie Bower in the next couple of weeks to investigate whether the committee has much of a chance in re-submitting for development money, or whether our efforts would be best suited for additional land acquisition. Steve requested that the committee email him with any specific questions that they would like to have him raise with the DNR.
Steve reported that he informed the town board of the committee’s decision to proceed with the proposed mowing agreement on a one-year trial basis. He stressed with the board for the need for accountability by the town crew. He also informed the board that the committee decided to retain the current park fee.
Steve informed the committee that he had received an inquiry as to the possibility of reserving the town park for a wedding reception in late summer. Steve informed the bride (who is a township resident), that there are no facilities in the park, and she indicated that she was aware of that and would potentially be renting facilities and a tent. A discussion followed and the issue of insurance and security deposits was raised. Steve agreed to meet with the town clerk to check into the insurance issue and to discuss any policies dealing with a potential fee schedule for such things as trash removal, etc.
Linda requested that the committee consider having a new sign created for the Town Park Road when it is closed off. Nick will get an estimate for the cost of a new sign stating that the road would be closed for motorized traffic for the winter.
The next meeting has been set for Monday, March 8, 2004 @ 6:30pm. At that time, the committee will be doing an entire review of the parks and set a couple of work dates for the parks. The committee will also review the survey spreadsheets at that time.
Nick moved to adjourn and Bob seconded the motion. Motion carried.
