TOWN OF OREGON PARK COMMITTEE
Monday, November 12, 2018 @ 6:45 pm
Present: Bob Johnson, Steve Root, Jeff Nelson and Al Miller. Absent: open position.
The minutes from the previous meeting were approved as written.
Steve asked if there were any changes or additions to the Eagle Scout project listing that was passed out at the last meeting. Steve meet with the Eagle Scout project leaders for Troop 168 and they indicated there are eight (8) scouts looking for a project, but up to fifteen (15) scouts are within the window of opportunity. There will be additional follow-up at the next park meeting.
Steve received a letter from a resident near Kennedy Park regarding the standing water. She is concerned about her pine trees dying. The clerk’s office and public works staff are aware of the situation. Steve will follow up with the resident in spring.
Al suggested adding an element of maintenance costs to Eagle Scout projects. The town takes on these projects without knowing how frequently they need to be maintained or what needs to be done. The town will continue to do the maintenance, but the scouts need to think about and share what on-going or future maintenance is required. The scout leaders may also recognize the need to have continued involvement with these projects.
Steve asked the park members to continue to think about the Eagle Scout project listing and give suggestions.
Steve will look at previous projects and come up with maintenance required. This will create a list of potential projects that could be completed for service hours.
Dane County has added the bike trail through Anderson Park to the budget for 2020. The dog park is also planned for 2020. The county will extend the bike trail to the dog park. The town will create a bike path from the Town Park to Anderson Park using Locust Grove and Glenway Road. The county is considering putting a bike path along County Highway A when the road is redone in 2021.
The next Park Committee meeting will be in March 2019.
Al moved, seconded by Bob to adjourn the meeting at 7:10 p.m. Motion carried 4-0.
