TOWN OF OREGON ROAD & TRAFFIC SAFETY COMMITTEE

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

Present: Chairman Wayne Ace, Chris Johnson, Dave Hagemann & Robert Kujawa
Absent: Constable Gary Wackett

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by Chairman Ace. There has been no further communication with resident, Sandy Eby, regarding the intersection of N. Azure Ct. and Windridge Rd. Chairman Ace referred to the letter sent after the September meeting advising Ms. Eby to attend the Town Board meeting if she has further concerns.

A discussion was held regarding traffic and road signs. Committee members had driven their assigned routes to determine how many intersections signs there were in their area. This was information gathered to determine how many brackets would be needed to place road (street name) signs on top of stop signs. This process eliminates one post which aids in mowing and snow plowing. Dave Hagemann showed the sign sample he had picked up at Decker Signs. The new national standard for road signs is to have a 9" blade and 6" and 4" lettering (upper and lower case). Many communities are replacing their signs with blue, some are continuing with green. Robert Kujawa indicated the difference between having the colored background with a white lettering overlay as opposed to the white background and colored lettering overlay. The former appears to be more reflective. Chairman Ace will check on prices and color choices and present the information to the Town Board.

Chairman Ace requested that committee members drive their assigned routes and report how many "stop ahead" signs are needed to be installed or replaced on major town roads. As new signs are installed or old ones replaced, they will be replaced with the new WI DOT standard of stop ahead with the symbol and not the verbiage. Chairman Ace reported that there is $1200 remaining in the 2009 sign budget.

Robert Kujawa reported that according to state standards any speed limit that is reduced by 10 mph must have signage indicating the reduced speed limit ahead. There are two roads in the town that need to have these signs posted. Robert Kujawa will write up the order for the speed limit change for Union Road (northbound) and Netherwood Rd. (east bound).

Discussion was held regarding the procedure for handling citizen requests. Citizens may appear at committee meetings with questions, concerns or requests, but unless they are listed as an agenda item the committee cannot act on that matter. If on the agenda, the committee will act and make a recommendation to the Town Board.

Motion by Dave Hagemann to adjourn, seconded by Robert Kujawa - meeting adjourned at 8:25 PM

Next meeting date: Tues. November 24, 2009 7:00 PM

Respectfully submitted,
Chris Johnson
